The Department of Chemistry at Purdue University consists of a community of scholars who seek a fundamental, molecular-scale understanding of the chemical reactions and properties of matter, and who apply that understanding. The department provides an educational environment where students learn to be independent scientists and scientifically literate citizens. Its educators also develop and apply an understanding of how chemical knowledge is acquired and transmitted. Its undergraduate and graduate programs emphasize an understanding of the molecular world.
