Abstract

The plenipotentiaries of the warring nations met in the Dutch town of Utrecht in 1712 to begin peace negotiations that would end the war of the Spanish Succession. The French had contacted England many years prior to this date in hopes of moving along an end to the war. The Abbe Francois Gaultier was their principle agent in the many secret negotiations that preceded the final negotiations at Utrecht.
