Abstract

Commercial houses have usually out-performed university presses in attracting serious and scholarly titles with wide readership appeal. The author compares the readership of university press titles to the serious titles published by non-university presses within the confines of academe. The method is to compare university library circulation statistics for a sample of titles from each category.
