Abstract
This presentation will highlight an INDOT case study on converting a high-speed, signalized rural intersection at SR 45/SR 445 to a compact roundabout that leverages the existing pavement structure and shoulder capacity to minimize new work and maintenance needs. The design limits footprint growth, avoids new right of way, and targets safer operations with speed-management features, including a proposed reduction of the posted speed. We will share geometry, traffic, and maintenance of traffic considerations as well as development lessons from district and central-office coordination for constructible, low-cost safety improvements.
