Abstract

This session presents best practices and lessons learned from evaluating bridges for overloaded permit vehicles. Modeling techniques for heavy haul permit vehicles will be discussed, including vehicle configuration; proper use of load distribution and modification factors; existing deterioration consideration; maximum design speed and dynamic load allowance; vertical and horizontal clearances; and 3D modeling of the rigid frame bridge on the permit route.
