Abstract

In an ever-growing population, one consideration that is growing increasingly important is maintaining food security, ensuring that individuals have physical and economic access to necessary food choices to create a nutritious diet.

Food insecurity is often viewed as a global issue affecting underdeveloped countries, but there are many people in the United States that live in geographical areas that lack available nutritious food choices at an affordable price, known as “food deserts,” with food insecurity typically falling along lines separating race and class. It will take a concerted effort between activists and public officials to make progress in this area.
