Abstract

The pandemic has had numerous drastic effects on the economy, with a great many workers laid off. Since then, there have been many more arguments made about the necessity of an increase in the federal minimum wage, which has not changed since July 2009. Dr. Spriggs, economist with the AFL-CIO, outlined some of the disparities between whites and minorities economically, particularly for Black Americans. In this paper, the inequality of wage, income, and unemployment from a racial and gender standpoint are discussed as motivations for an increase in the minimum wage on the basis of equity.

In this paper, the inequality of wage, income, and unemployment from a racial and gender standpoint are discussed as motivations for an increase in the minimum wage on the basis of equity.
