Abstract
In this paper a newly invented rotary compressor design called coupled vane compressor will be introduced. It is probably the most compact rotary vane compressor available today. In its basic form, it consists of a rotor, a stator and a coupled-vane. As compared to the existing rotary compressors such as rolling piston compressor, sliding vane compressor it has the most compact design. It is anticipated that for the same working capacity, coupled vane compressor has only half or smaller overall physical size, and thus safe materials usage and machining cost significantly, Due to its smaller physical size, mechanical losses also reduces. It is also expected that the peak torque required will also reduce and hence a smaller diameter motor can be used, In this paper, its basic construction and operational principle will be introduced and discussed.
