Approaches to the synthesis of pancratistatin and the creation and development of the contiguous chiral carbon catalog
Abstract
Approaches towards the total synthesis of Pancratistatin are described herein. In addition, this thesis describes the creation and development of a powerful new approach to the synthesis of asymmetric synthons. This method relies upon a single catalytic step to introduce asymmetry from readily available starting materials and introduces further stereocenters via scaleable, environmentally-friendly transformations. Subsequent, high-yielding chemistry allows for easy access to both highly-functionalized cyclic and acylic substrates, thereby greatly increasing the scope of this methodology.
