The effects of a Homework Station on the completion of math homework for middle school students

Arlene Mildred Hall, Purdue University

Abstract

The purpose of the present research was to study the effects of a Homework Station on the completion, accuracy, and time of math homework for students nominated by their teachers for inattention and high activity. The Homework Station was a three sided free-standing panel that contained a mirror and pockets. The mirror and the contents of the pockets--log sheets, activity break cards, pencils, and an audio tape, were designed for the purpose of providing auditory, visual, and kinesthetic stimulation and a self-monitoring component. Three students and their parents were trained in the use of the Homework Station in their individual homes. The study was a single subject multiple baseline across subjects design. One student (the last trained) elected not to use the intervention. The two students who used the station tripled the amount of homework completed and their accuracy scores.
