A method for the automation of design: Modeling, representing, and simulating device and system behavior

John Allen Stutz, Purdue University

Abstract

The objective of this research is to aid in the design process by increasing the designer's capacity to get immediate feedback on the effects of design decisions throughout all stages of the design process. We are specifically concerned with a formalism which will endow a design tool with the capability of representing and reasoning at the level of the functional specification of the design requirements. Such a formalism will enable individual designers to leverage their own skills and experience with the previous design information that the system has stored from other designers. The results will be more robust designs that require less redesign as the processes of testing and production progress.
