Target fragmentation of silver by 13.6 GeV/nucleon oxygen-16 ions
Abstract
Cross sections and recoil properties of 90 products of the interaction of silver with 13.6 GeV/nucleon $\sp{16}\rm O$ ions were determined by the thick-target thick-catcher technique. The data were used to obtain the isobaric-yield and mass-yield distributions as well as the two-step model values of the mean remnant velocities and the mean kinetic energies associated with the deexcitation step. The results are compared with similar data from Ag reactions of comparable energy proton and lower energy $\sp{12}\rm C$ projectiles in order to test the applicability of factorization and limiting fragmentation. Cross section data are generally consistent with both limiting fragmentation and factorization. Recoil data, on the other hand, are not consistent with factorization.
