Models of conflict and cooperation: Interaction patterns of international actors

David Daniel Bogumil, Purdue University

Abstract

In this study, patterns of dyadic interaction between the US and the USSR were analyzed. Three models were tested; simple reciprocity, comparative reciprocity and trend reciprocity. Each model was examined for its overall and yearly significance over several decades. Additionally, three conditions were evaluated for their cumulative and individual effect on each model's performance. These conditions are military power, economic strain and presidential approval.
