Multiobjective rehabilitation strategies for dams
Abstract
The focus of this research is the development of an optimization procedure that generates strategies for the allocation of resources to infrastructure rehabilitation and repair. The methodology is capable of handling multiple projects and multiple rehabilitation measures and is driven by overall system reliability considerations. Allocations are made based on the perceived reliabilities and future deterioration expected within the rehabilitation interval. Specification of an optimal planning horizon is treated explicitly using a dynamic programming procedure. The effects of age and system reliability on the rehabilitation strategies are explored and a case study using dam rehabilitation data is presented. Possible applications to other infrastructure rehabilitation problems are discussed.
