A CONCEPTUAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT PLANNING MODEL (FUZZY SETS, NETWORKS)

GARY RODERICK SMITH, Purdue University

Abstract

Construction projects have been the subject of many previous evaluations. Monitoring projects with schedules, forecasting possible completion times and evaluating project delays have all been reviewed in detail by other researchers. None are developed that account for the contractor's intuitive estimates of factors outside of the quantities and times. The potential for schedule planning improvement to reduce project delays is investigated. The main focus of this study is on the process of planning a construction schedule that isolates factors outside the "normal" schedule and incorporates their influence through various models. The primary advantages to the proposed system is that the resulting schedule incorporates a simulated weather pattern, adjusts planned schedule durations for the sensitivity of the activity and adjusts for system factors outside of the schedule activities.
