A DATA ACQUISITION SYSTEM FOR MAGNETIC BUBBLE EXPERIMENTS

ROBERT FRANK PHELPS, Purdue University

Abstract

A microcomputer based, data acquisition system was designed and built to speed the collection of data from the rotating gradient, magnetic bubble experiment. Through the use of special interface hardware, the experimental apparatus may be directly linked to the microcomputer system. A special software program was written which controls the data acquisition process and links the system with a larger, host computer system. Subsequent data analysis, data storage, and necessary software development is accomplished using the host computer. Typical experimental data consists of material magnetization information, bubble velocities, bias and radial field magnitudes, radial drive frequencies, as well as bubble trajectory and diameter measurements.
