OPTIMAL SENSOR/ACTUATOR SELECTION, NUMBER, AND PLACEMENT FOR LINEAR STOCHASTIC SYSTEMS
Abstract
This thesis has established a general procedure for determining the number, type and locations of both sensors and actuators in linear stochastic systems. For sensor/actuator selection, number, and placement, two new techniques have been developed. One is the Extended Chen-Seinfeld method for determining combined sensor and actuator location, and the other is the Cost Decomposition method. The Cost Decomposition and the Chen-Seinfeld Methods are combined to offer unified approach. Finally, some numerical and analytical work concerning actuator/sensor number, types and locations for several flexible plates are presented to show the usefulness of the method.
