KINETIC AND MECHANISTIC STUDY OF ACID-CATALYZED ALKYLATION OF ISOBUTANE WITH C(4)-OLEFINS AT LOW TEMPERATURES.
Abstract
Sulfuric-acid-catalyzed alklation of isobutane with butenes based on a new concept of two-step reactions was investigated in the low temperature range of - 20° to 0° C. Several small reactors were employed to study the effect of various process variables (namely, acid-to-olefin ratio, acid composition, agitation , isobutane-to-olefin ratio and temperature). Degradation and isomerization reactions o f alkylate isoparaffins in contact with acid were also investigated in the temperature range of -10° to +25° C and over a wide range of process conditions that are also of commercial interest.
