Abstract

Norman, Wendell Smith. Ph.D., Purdue University, June 1961. Lateral Stability of a Vehicle Equipped with a Hydraulic Power Steering System. Major Professor: H. M. DeGroff. A study is presented of the lateral stability of a moving ground vehicle equipped with a hydraulic power steering system. The nature of the load acted on by the hydraulic system for a moving vehicle is markedly different from that for a stationary vehicle. For such a moving vehicle, there is an interaction between the hydraulic system and the vehicle dynamics, and it is the purpose of this study to ascer- tain the effect of this interaction upon the stability of the overall system.
