Search for the standard model Higgs boson in the decay channel H → ZZ → ℓ+ℓ– qq¯ at CMS

Matthew Kip Kress, Purdue University

Abstract

A search for a standard-model-like Higgs boson decaying into two Z bosons with subsequent decay into two leptons and two quark-jets, H → ZZ → ℓ +ℓ–qq¯ is presented. The CMS experiment collected 19.6 fb−1 of data in 2012 of pp collisions at squrt(s) = 8 TeV. The analysis uses the kinematics of the final state and quark flavor tagging to select the Higgs boson signal in the mass range between 230 GeV and 650 GeV. No evidence of a Higgs boson signal is found and upper limits are set on the Higgs boson production cross section in that mass range.
