Fundamental group in positive characteristic
Abstract
It has been shown that the commutator subgroup of the algebraic fundamental group of a smooth irreducible affine curve over a countable algebraically closed field of positive characteristic is profinite free of countable rank. A description of the abelianizations of the fundamental groups of affine curves over any algebraically closed field of positive characteristic is also given.
