Variable aperture coding: A bandwidth efficient modulation scheme
Abstract
In this research, a new coded modulation scheme, Variable Aperture Coding (VAC), for the improvement of bandwidth efficiency is investigated. After a brief review of the motivations of developing this new modulation scheme, the VAC signal is described in detail in terms of its encoding rules, characteristics, and mathematical descriptions. Further theoretical analysis of the VAC signal reveals the characteristics of the Power Spectral Density (PSD) of the VAC signal. Theoretical analysis through Euclidean distance calculation gives the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of the VAC signal. The VAC system performance is investigated through simulation. Simulation of VAC system under different scenarios further verifies the theory of operation of VAC system, and the simulation results present the performance of the VAC system. Experimental results of VAC system are also presented. The hardware performance shows a close match to the simulated results.
