Charged kaon production at mid-rapidity in gold -gold collisions at 130 GEV
Abstract
We report results of charged kaon production at mid-rapidity in Au+Au collisions at [special characters omitted] = 130 GeV measured by the STAR experiment at RHIC. The yields are described by an exponential in tranverse mass. The inverse slope parameter shows a slight increase with centrality. The K−/π − and K+/π+ ratios are constant across centrality, and they are enhanced by about 50% with respect to p+p and p+p¯ collisions at the same energy. The negative kaon to pion ratio as a function of a new experimental variable called ω seems to saturate at RHIC which might be an indication of gluon saturation.
