Synthesis of substituted cyclic dienes and synthetic studies toward the total synthesis of pretazettine

David John Meyers, Purdue University

Abstract

This thesis continues with the contiguous chiral carbon catalog (4C) theme, and can be divided into three main areas of research: (1) the development of alternative syntheses of 2-(phenylsulfonyl)-1,3-cyclohepadiene and 2-(phenylsulfonyl)-1,3 cycloheptadiene, (2) the extension of the work of Jacobsen and Hentemann in the exploration of the Jacobsen epoxidation of various cyclic dienes, and finally, (3) the application of the 4C concept to the synthesis of the alkaloid pretazettine.
