Measurement of the positively charged B meson cross-section in proton-antiproton collisions at 1.8 TeV using the fully reconstructed decay of the positively charged B meson decaying to J/psi meson+charged kaon

Todd A Keaffaber, Purdue University

Abstract

This thesis presents the measurement of the B + meson production cross section and the differential cross section, dσ/dpT, from pp¯ collisions at [special characters omitted] = 1.8 TeV. The B+ meson is fully reconstructed using the exclusive decay B+ → J/[special characters omitted]K+ with J/[special characters omitted] → μ+μ−. The data set, consisting of about 110 pb−1, was recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab during the 1992–1995 Tevatron run. The B+ meson cross section was measured to be 3.52 ± 0.38(stat) ± 0.46(sys) μb. The differential cross section is also presented.
