Body optic
Abstract
Often deemed the ‘sixth sense,’ perception is a vital aspect in how we subjectively understand the world. The act of perceiving becomes an act of revealing as the senses disclose the world to us. How does the body perceive space? And in what ways does the perceptual experience appear in art? This thesis explores the meaning of the perceptual experience and the role it has in artistic practice. Emphasis is placed on the philosophy of phenomenology and the human-technology relationship. Accompanying the thesis is a video collection, which acknowledge the role of the body in the perceptual process and attempts to show the perceptual experience from various bodily vantage points.
