Drag Queen with a Tapeworm

Mitchell Jacobs, Purdue University

Abstract

A fascinating textbook, The Invertebrates: a new synthesis (second edition) by Barnes, Calow, and Olive, contains the following description of action potential, the difference in charge across the length of a nerve that causes the electric impulse. The goals of these poems are encompassed therein: “An appropriate analogy is a trail of gunpowder ignited at one end with a match.”^
