C-F bond activation by uranium(iii) complexes
Abstract
The work presented herein focuses on two projects carried out under the direction of Dr. Suzanne Bart. Chapter one concentrates on the selective C-F activation of aryl fluorides by the uranium (III) alkyl complex, Tp*2UCH2Ph (Tp* = hydrotris(3,5-dimethyl pyrozolyl)borate) via a direct C-C coupling. In addition, the functionalization of the aryl fluorides through reaction with thiolate and amine adducts of the uranium(III) alkyl complex (Tp*2UR, R=SPh, NHPh) is examined. Chapter two highlights the synthesis and characterization of a uranium(III) complex supported by the neutral tetradentate ligand TPA (TPA= tris (2-pyridylmethyl)amine)).
