Lightning Talk

Description

Wharton Research Data Services (commonly known as 'WRDS') is an essential data platform on many university campuses with a research-intensive business program. The platform can host a wide range of data subscriptions including BoardEx, Compustat, CRSP, IBES, Option Metrics, Thompson Reuters data and much more. Often a WRDS subscription is funded through the business program, rather than through the library, but it is essential that business librarians are familiar with this source and if at all possible are able to access and efficiently work through some of the more common data pull requests. As data literacy becomes an increasingly important component to business education, and higher education as a whole, the ability of the business librarian to interact with this core resource will increase the relevance and reputation of our positions. This talk will provide a lightning introduction to: the platform, some of the most common datasets available, access methods, common funding situations, and ways to learn more.
