International Playgroup is a community organization founded in 2003 and administered by women at Redeemer Lutheran Church and a few other Christian women in Greater Lafayette. It is designed to support international mothers of preschoolers in Greater Lafayette in navigating pregnancy and motherhood when they are away from home countries. At least once a month, international mothers and their preschoolers meet for meal, play, arts, and clothing swap. Although having religious affiliations, the playgroup activities are minimally religious. International Playgroup would like to get more exposure of its benefits for international women. The group would also like to have archives of their activities. With my academic interest in Religions in the US, I will help this group to create archives in the form of artwork made by these mothers (and their preschoolers). With a theme “Faith in Motherhood,” International Playgroup will invite these women to think about motherhood as an exercise of “faith,” broadly defined. All submissions will be displayed as a physical and online exhibition. February-April playgroups will invite/collect submissions from participants. Announcement via mailing list will be made so participants can plan ahead. During playgroups, arts and crafts supplies to do on-site projects (or take home) will be provided. Physical exhibition will be open to the public during May playgroup. Online exhibition will be displayed on mystoryofreligion.weebly.com.
