Abstract
Provides detailed coverage of information resources produced by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration (MARAD). This organization is responsible for regulating U.S. waterborne transportation including ships and shipping, port and vessel operations, the environment, safety, the U.S. Merchant Marine, and national security including the need to enhance national surge capability in wartime of time of national emergency. Presentation includes coverage of this organization's history, current congressional oversight, and the roles played in maritime shipping by other U.S. Government agencies, and non-governmental professional organizations.
