Abstract

The preparation of this model drainage ordinance was the result of numerous meetings by a committee composed of County Commissioners, County Engineers, County Surveyors, and representatives of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and Indiana Department of Highways. The goal of this group was to formulate a drainage ordinance that could be adapted by Indiana counties to satisfy the counties' needs for reasonable drainage control, the current state of engineering practice and reasonable engineering standards. The group began with the experience of counties in Indiana which had already adopted some form of drainage control policy. Through numerous modifications and additions, the initial document evolved into this latest model drainage control ordinance.
