The PICA Catalogue System
Description
This paper describes the development and operation of the PICA cataloguing system. The objectives for the PICA project are given. The computer system is described together with the present on-line and off-line functions. Future planned functions of the PICA system are outlined: On-line thesaurus facilities, interlibrary lending facilities, statistics, interfacing with local library systems, acquisition administration, extended searching facilities. The suggestion is made that a standard local library system, which can be interfaced with the central PICA catalogue system, will be developed.
