Description

This paper discusses the need for cooperation between libraries, and the forms this may take with examples of both formal and informal cooperation. The author conc1udes that the profession of library and information science is in a state of change and that the library schools must try to train librarians for the future situation. With regard to library cooperation, any library school will have problems in teaching and motivating students for something that does not seem to exist in the real world of libraries. When it comes to promoting library cooperation, through education, there are problems on both the cognitive as well as the emotional level. It is important that cooperation between libraries is developed. This has implications for library education. The author conc1udes that the teaching of library cooperation to library students should be a shared responsibility between the profession and educational institutions.
