An Experimental Diminished Reality Implementation for Augmented Reality Furniture Shopping Applications

Zhengda Shi, Purdue University

Abstract

This study focuses on implementation and user satisfaction assessment of a newly designed diminished reality method. To improve customers’ experience in previewing the result of replacing large furniture at home, an experimental method which covers a background rendering overlay cube on the target furniture was designed. An application implementing this method was developed, and a user experience survey was conducted. We were expecting our method would help customers find appropriate furniture and make decisions, but the result showed the reversed effect. However, some conclusions of this study can be useful for other future research.
