Abstract

Detailed planning data are commonly stored in CAD format, which limits effective spatial data management and analysis. This study develops a GIS database for detailed planning by converting CAD data into a geodatabase environment, with Huong Mac Ward, Bac Ninh Province as the case study area. A workflow is proposed to convert CAD-based planning data into a GIS database, aiming to support consistent data organization and practical use in planning management. The workflow includes CAD data standardization, conversion into spatial features, and GIS database structure design. CAD data are processed and organized before being transformed into spatial objects suitable for database construction. The resulting database consists of approximately 30 thematic groups and 150 data layers. Topology validation identified 71 spatial errors in the original dataset, including overlaps and gaps, which were corrected to ensure data consistency. The GIS database enables structured data organization and supports efficient querying compared to conventional CAD-based data. The proposed workflow provides a practical approach for organizing detailed planning data in a GIS environment and can be applied to similar detailed planning projects.
