Abstract

Budgeting in the academic library setting can be a very daunting task from year to year due to the complexities of the funding models, yearly percentage increases for continuation materials, budget cuts, and other unexpected issues that may result in budgetary issues. This paper aims to provide creative ways to use library budgets that will save money while allowing them to accomplish much more at the same time. It offers many strategies that may not work for all libraries, but which will serve as strong starting points and a step in the right direction. Some of these strategies include one-time funding, fundraising, bi-annual budgeting, and vendor negotiation.
