Description

With the framework of the European single market, knowledge on research capacities and activities becomes more and more important in order to avoid double expenses and double work and to concentrate the economic resources.

Therefore the European countries as well as the European community started to make information available on current and concluded research projects, research institutions and researchers.

The paper introduces the main problems of creating a common European research information system.

The activities in the different countries will be presented and the plans for a future harmonization will be described.
