Abstract

Electric utilities, by encouraging the use of high efficiency heat pumps, have increased the amount of power electronics in the residential sector. This report examines the impact that an adjustable speed drive heat pump has on the electric distribution transformer. Using a PSpice model of the components and ANSIDEEE Recommended Standard C57.1 10-1986, the transformer capability to supply a nonsinusoidal load current to the residence is established.
