Hochschild cohomology and the Smith resolution

Ronald C Mitchell, Purdue University

Abstract

Two different cochain complexes, the Smith and the Bar resolutions are described. There is a product defined on the Bar cochains known as the Gerstenhaber product. It is not graded commutative at the level of cochains. It is possible to construct a graded commutative product on the Smith cochains. A map between the Smith cochains and the Bar cochains is described. This maps is a quasi-isomorphism. It is desired that this map should preserve the product structures up to homotopy, but ultimately this is not established.
