A pilot study of the benefits of retrocommissioning on health care facility energy performance

Chen Chen, Purdue University

Abstract

This research collected energy consumption data before and after retrocommissioning health care facilities. Energy consumption data was collected from 10 hospitals and converted to energy usage intensity (kBtu/ft2). A paired t-test is conducted to verify whether retrocommissioning will reduce energy consumption for health care facilities or not. Additionally, information on cost for implementing retrocommissioning and annual energy savings were also collected from 12 hospitals. Payback period for the investment in retrocommissioning was calculated.
