Re-cover: Dynamic e-book cover design

Hsuan-An Chen, Purdue University

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to introduce the author's findings and a proposed "re-cover" project as a role of a visual communication designer. In the past, paper book cover designers were similar to static visual interpreters for book stories. Today, e-book cover designers can become dynamic art directors. This research introduces a possible dynamic form regarding e-book cover designs. For designers, it is both a challenge and a wonderful opportunity to combine dynamic elements into this new playground. For readers, well-design e-book covers can provide a better reading experience. For publishers and authors, a good design can be a more compelling and convincing form when regarding e-book marketing. Endeavors in many dynamic-related perspectives are discussed and referenced in this study.
