Top-down state-based modeling of the air transportation system

Yiwu Jian, Purdue University

Abstract

This thesis provides a framework to model the air transportation system and evaluate its performance. Two methods were employed and integrated. One is the Abstraction Hierarchy which analyzes the general functions of the air transportation. The other is the statecharts which represent the systems changes through time at the general functions level. Both key agent capabilities that influence the transition of the system’s states and possible future research on human performance distribution in the future are identified.
