The Espada

Anthony Michael Cook, Purdue University

Abstract

The Espada is a novel about the construction of a massive casino-resort in Las Vegas. In addition to the construction of The Espada, the novel follows Eddie Harolds, a young ironworker on the project; Bryce Keyes, the project's billionaire developer; and Eric Calvinson, an ambitious political consultant. Corruption, fringe politics, and labor disputes serve as the backdrop for the novel's primary focus: the role of expectations in father-son relationships.^
