Creating a conscience: Developing training materials to prepare public relations practitioners for ethics roles

Rachel Mae Ravellette, Purdue University

Abstract

Because public relations is an industry in itself, as a field, the academic study of PR should have a clear focus on being applied. However, too often, the results of academic PR studies are not accessible to or implementable for practitioners within the industry. This project has as its goal to help narrow the gap between the academic study of public relations and the actual practice of public relations specifically in the area of what ethics roles PR practitioners can/should be filling. In order to bridge that gap, this project is centered on a training program designed to prepare PR practitioners to take on ethics roles.
