Kevin A Prothero, Purdue University

Abstract

With the rising popularity of Information Technology and the business solutions the discipline can bring to today’s market, it is imperative for managers and leaders to be able to make informed decisions about how to utilize these tools. By understanding how the human capital of organizations can be expanded through the use of cost effective training methods greater performance can be achieved to meet business demands. This thesis looks into the comparative effectiveness of online training methods to a traditional workshop setting. A quasi-experimental pretest-post test method was used to compare the average scores of three different groups: control (no training), experiment (online training), and workshop (traditional workshop setting). The experiment mimics professional training programs by training participants on the use of GIMP, a free to download software for image manipulation. The results are compared using ANOVA calculations in SAS.
