Determination of the transport properties of brain tumors using contrast-enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to discover if tumor variability in the transport properties between different patients would be highly dependent on the tumor type, the location of the tumor within the brain, and the specific region of interest within the tumor. Recent advances in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology allowed for the acquisition of highly detailed images that provided insight into the classification and identification of a specific tumor within an individual patient. These data, in combination with computational models, provided the ability to create patient-specific models. The results demonstrated that the transport characteristics of meningiomas and gliomas in dogs could be correlated using contrast-enhanced MRI images with computational models.
