Students' conceptions of nanoscience phemonena: The beginning of a nanoscience concept inventory

Jocelyn M Tessman, Purdue University

Abstract

Nanoscience has become an integral part of our society. In order for students to be introduced to this interdisciplinary science, their conceptions of nanoscience must first be evaluated. This study describes the initial steps of the construction of an assessment instrument for nanoscience. About forty previous STEM instruments and their development are discussed. The difficulties of generating an instrument for such a young science are addressed, as well as future developmental work.
