Tantalus as a Woman in Her Bathtub

Rachel Reynolds, Purdue University

Abstract

Find in these pages, reader, a collection of poems that speak of forms changed into new bodies. Any iconology of the animalia therein would have to include those that belong to the Gods, wounded ones, those that are winged, white swans, unicorns, grotesque ones, stray dogs, those that are metaphorical, those that rattle and shake, invisible ones, those painted with meticulous strokes, the Other, those that have just sprouted hands, and those that from a distance approach on camelback. This book owes a great debt to Arcimboldo, Borges, and Ovid.^
