Abstract
SCOAP3, the Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics, is an innovative model to achieve open access to peer-reviewed journals in High Energy Physics (HEP). SCOAP3 aims to convert HEP articles in the leading journals from subscription payment to open access. The innovation is distinguished by being the first project that aims at converting an entire discipline online, worldwide. It is a coalition of stakeholders within the worldwide research community, specifically in HEP: researchers, authors, funders, libraries, and publishers. The objective of SCOAP3, as outlined in this presentation, is to convert the content in these leading journals from the current subscription model to open access without diminishing the values and branding provided by today’s quality publishers and publications. The presentation focuses heavily on how the innovators behind SCOAP3 are taking action to achieve the goals of the project.
